My hours have left Craig and I with very little time together; also, it just wasn't anything I was interested in doing long term. The people I work with are great, and I've learned some valuable things. I was just eager for a change.

I'm happy to report that I've secured two part-time jobs to take the place of my current full-time job! First off, I'll be working at a new restaurant, The Smoking Apple, that some family friends are opening. I'll be working really short shifts there, but I'm excited to interact with people face-to-face and to work with the owners, who are awesome folks. My other job will be freelance writing for a web content firm in Provo. This job allows me to work from home, which is EXCELLENT considering our one-car/two-people situation. Also, this means that I'll actually get to write for money! Writing is what I want to do for my whole life, so getting started now makes me really happy. Like this: =)

I start both jobs next week.

More Than You Signed On To Read - The Sara Edition

Well, Craig's first blog was a hit, and I'm a bit envious. Who's the blogger in this family, huh? Wait - who's the WRITER in this family? I can't be shown up by some ELang-er from BYU, even if I do love him and make his meals from time to time. I need my own glorious moment in the blogspot sun.

My current life revolves basically around school, work, the world of married-ness, and one other extra special SURPRISE that I'll elaborate on a bit later. Are you excited? You bet you are! Let's start the fun!

School: This semester may very well be my final school term ever. Considering that I've been going to school from August to May every year since I was five, knowing that I'll finish soon is sort of scary, sort of awesome, and a little hard to take in. My plan is to graduate at the end of May from Southern Utah University. "But Sara, isn't that in Cedar City?! And don't you live in Provo now?! And shouldn't you just transfer to BYU or UVU or something so that you don't miss all your classes and completely fail at your lifelong dream of college graduation?!!!" Well, actually, having only one semester left made transferring to another school really bothersome. SUU is the place I love and the place I'm loyal to, besides, so the thought of having another name on my diploma felt somehow wrong. I'm taking thirteen credits online from some seriously gracious professors who were willing to work with me. For now, my Creative Non-Fiction class has me reading Maya Angelou's breathtaking memoir "I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings," which I recommend highly.

Work: I have a job! This wonderful news is brought to you courtesy of a company in Orem that fields a lot of phone calls about real estate, investing, helplines, 30-day trials, and all the other buzzwords you might expect. It isn't what I'd call "the dream job" (but then again, "the dream job" for this point in my life is probably located in Portland, OR, where I'd be hired as an assistant buyer for Powell's, the largest independent bookstore in the world), but it really is great for where I'm at. It's a fun environment and the work is challenging, which is what I need. My bosses are really encouraging and supportive, which I sincerely appreciate. Also: I get to wear skirts to work, and I've discovered that when I talk to people from the South, they are super courteous. Hot diggety. =)

Newlywedded: Craig and I have been married for close to three weeks now. We're in our apartment now, all moved in and pretty much settled. We have plates and silverware, food in the fridge, pictures on the wall. Being married has been completely great - there's some stress to it, of course, but nothing that we've been unable to handle. Our families have been so wonderful in every way, and Craig is a fantastic husband. I was actually sick for a few days during our honeymoon, giving Craig the perfect chance to prove his love to me! He cooked for me, entertained me, let me sleep, and provided me with Saltines (even though I was so sick I couldn't eat them). Since school and work have started back up for both of us, there's been less time to spend together, but such is life, right? We're having a lot of fun growing closer and figuring this thing out together.

Extra Special Surprise: I've been watching MTV's latest installment of "The Real World," which is set in Brooklyn, NY this time around. Reality shows like this one are something I'll confess to enjoying a whole lot. I'm hoping to eventually write something about "The Real World" (or maybe "The Hills" or "The City" - beautiful destinations, one and all) and submit the essay to a magazine called No Brow, which accepts smart writing about stupid entertainment. Of course, I don't know if a magazine like that exists, but if it does, I'm all over it. =) Anyhow, I've seen a few episodes of the show's past seasons, but only coincidentally. This season actually seems like it'll be MUCH less sleezy (sleazy?) and alcohol-induced than others, which should make it pretty interesting to follow along with (in, you know, a low brow/no brow sort of way).

That's it for me, team. Thanks for reading more than you signed on for.

More Than You Signed On To Read

Aha! My first blog. First blog ever. I'll not be terribly surprised if it's my last, either, due to my lifetime lack of diligence with this sort of thing (I think at least 25 of mom's grey hairs are from trying to get me to keep a journal). But it's Tuesday, so I guess that's as good a reason as any to get started.

For those (Ok, she. Ok, Mom.) who are curious about what's happening in my life, I'll let you in on the grand story: I have a wife. And a job. And classes.

And there you have it! But of course I can't wrap it up there, or I'm sure my fans would hunt me down and demand a sequel. Better to get it out of the way now.

So anyway...

...I'm in school. It's sort of a fact of my life. A fact which somehow makes more and less sense the further I get into it. I'm still plugging away at my English Language degree (if you assume from the name that I am busy studying literature of any kind, then you now stand corrected. Well, they do love Beowulf in the ELang department, but try telling the English professors that it's literature...), and recently signed on to be in the Editing Minor. This minor was chosen in the desperate attempt to find that elusive "marketability" that I'm always hearing about from places on campus other than the Humanities building.

Oo! And I'm married! This unbelievably-long-time-coming event happened two-and-a-half weeks ago, with Sara, my stunning and witty, stunningly witty? co-author. Aw...co-author. It's like a new term for "being married". Or something. Anyway, so far I'm having a great time with it, and couldn't enjoy anything more than finally getting to be around her. We didn't get much "together time" when compared to many couples who are engaged for nine months. What's my favorite part about marriage so far? I'd say it's either brushing my teeth next to the love of my life, or presents. Anyway, it's been really great, and I look forward to having a reason to keep that Responsibility Switch flipped to the "on" position for the rest of my life.

And if I'm not terribly mistaken, I do believe that I have now written enough to be permanently excused from all future posting-duties! Whew!

Just The Basics

Marital Status? Married

How long have you been together? Almost a year

How long did you know each other before you started dating? 10 months

Who asked who out? Craig asked me

How old are each of you? I'm 21 and Craig is 22

What are your astrological signs? I'm a Pisces; Craig is an Aries

How tall are each of you? I'm in the 5'5"-5'6" range, and I believe Craig is 5'11" or 6'

Whose mother do you see the most? Historically, I'd say Craig's

Whose siblings do/did you see the most? Craig's

Do you have any children together? Nope

Do you have any pets? We both have family pets that we love, but none together

What’s the hardest on you as a couple? Probably self-doubt in general

What do you both do for a living? We are both students, working in cubicles when time permits

Is that what you went to school for? Not really

Did you both go to the same school? Nope

Are you from the same hometown? No to that

Do you live in the same town now? At long last, yes!

Who is the smartest? Oh, how can we make an assessment of that? We are both thinkers and lovers of words/books, so ... I'm calling it a tie.

Who is the most sensitive? I want to say that I'm probably the more sensitive (in terms of being more likely to have my feelings hurt)

Where do you eat out most as a couple? At our awesome new table from IKEA!

Where do you shop the most as a couple? I do, obviously. =)

Who has the craziest exes? Craig, I guess. But we don't have really crazy or shocking stories on that front. Some of Craig's just won't really talk to him now. =)

Who has the worst temper? Neither of us are the kind to be hot-tempered. We get mad quietly.

Who does the cooking? Cooking is shared labor in this hizzouse.

Who is more social? Being anti-social is sort of a common bond, but I think Craig's probably got me beat by a little and is the more social one.

Who is the neat-freak? No freakiness here, but Craig is the more attentive to those things.

Who is the most stubborn? Me, by a lot.

Who hogs the bed? Craig sure doesn't, so I hope I don't either.

Who wakes up earlier? Craig. It astounds me, actually.

Who sings better? We are both awesome. =)

Who’s older? Craig, but not by tons.

Who does the laundry? I just started our first load, so I think we both have a little work to do. =)

Who does the dishes? We've shared that pretty equally, I think.

Who’s better with the computer? Hmm ... maybe me?

Who drives? Craig most often, but it's not a rule. We share it.

Who picks where you go to dinner? If Craig asks me out, I expect him to do the picking. But if it's just a night out by default, I'll help pick.

Who is the first one to admit when they’re wrong? Craig, probably.

Who named your pet? No pet to speak of.

Who kissed who first? I kissed Craig.
